Is there a simple method to keep the Vac 'n Seal or Vac 'n Seal Elite gasket from getting crushed?

Storing your Vac 'n Seal or Vac 'n Seal Elite with the lid closed and locked will prematurely crush the gasket and impact the effectiveness of the vacuum. A simple way to store your Vac 'n Seal or Vac 'n Seal Elite to save the gasket is to retain and use the small cardboard V from the original packaging. If that is not available, simply swap the liquid tray so it does not fit flat like in the pictures below.
