Does the source water matter when making clear ice in the Skyra series clear ice makers?
Yes, the quality of the water can impact the results when making clear ice in the Skyra series clear ice makers. Some areas have tap water that can make clear ice with no problem, but other areas may have hard water that could lead to cloudy results (Las Vegas, we are looking at you!). If your tap water produces cloudy ice, you may need to pre-filter/treat your water. Here is a known water filtration and treatment that resulted in hard tap water producing clear ice.
Tap water was reverse osmosis (RO) filtered and re-mineralized with calcium and magnesium.
The results were alkaline water, softened to a pH of 9 with 50 ppm hardness and a total dissolved solids (TDS) level of 43.
